Why I Could Do Better
The unofficial motto in New York is "I could do better." It's a phrase that summarizes why people here are so driven to be successful, yet feel so inadequate in the attempt. It also explains that a city of nearly nineteen million people -- packed shoulder-to-shoulder, mind you -- find that "it's hard to meet people". This is a city chock full of leggy supermodels who bore the hell out of their dirtbag boyfriends. Everyone's looking for the Bigger Better Deal, and I suppose I'm no different.
I've had my share of unrealistic expectations and fears of mediocrity and inadequacy. I could wax endlessly about my artistic failures and tales of heartbreak and/or woe. Happily, this site isn't about that, or at least that's not the intent. It's about finding what is truly better in the world and within myself. Groan if you will at the sappiness of that sentiment (I would if I were you) but this is pretty much just for my friends and family anyway, and I think they'll forgive a little cheese melting through the snark now and then.
In fact, I think my new motto should be "less snark, more rock". Ok, maybe not as my official motto, but you get the idea.
